    Windows needs to know the actual IP behind the host name.

    Use “lmhosts” file to resolve IP addresses to other computer NetBIOS names.

    Rename lmhosts.sam to lmhosts and tailor the file to your needs.

    Usually you need to use this file, if you need access PC(s) in a different domain or workgroup.

    Use “hosts” file to resolve IP addresses to host names.

    This file you use to for machines other than Windows.

    Both files are located in %SystemRoot%System32DriversEtc
